Manuel Teran Hernández, M.A., is a registered psychology associate currently practicing under the supervision of Dr. Elizabeth Disney, Ph.D. He holds a master’s degree in counseling psychology from the University of Maryland, where he is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology. Manuel employs an integrative approach, primarily drawing from relational-cultural and psychodynamic-interpersonal approaches, while also incorporating radical healing interventions. His clinical interests include anxiety, depression, body image and self-esteem, discrimination and acculturation-related stress, identity exploration, family-of-origin, and the mental health of Latino/x, LGBTQ+, and young adult populations.
Additionally, Manuel has experience as an instructor, teaching undergraduate courses in counseling skills and positive psychology. As a scholar, his research explores the effects of discrimination and cultural values on the mental and behavioral health of individuals with multiple marginalized identities, with a
particular focus on young gay, bisexual, and queer Men of Color. Manuel strives to create a supportive and empowering environment where clients can explore their therapeutic goals, achieve healing, and be fully recognized as their most authentic selves.
