Dr. James Rutledge is a licensed clinical psychologist in the states of Maryland and Virginia. He earned his Psy.D. in clinical psychology at Argosy University in Arlington, Virginia. Given his special interest in working with special needs children and their families, while still in graduate school, he completed a fellowship in the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and related Disabilities (LEND) program at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. He completed his doctoral internship at the San Antonio Military Medical Center in Texas as a commissioned officer in the Army. He then worked for several years as a licensed psychologist at Fort Meade before resigning from active duty. He enjoys working with individuals of all ages, couples, and families. He has extensive experience working with individuals challenged by anxiety, PTSD, depression, ADHD, ODD, Personality Disorders, and Autism Spectrum Disorders. Dr. Rutledge has also gained certification as a Prolonged Exposure Therapist which is an evidenced based manualized treatment designed to help individuals suffering from the effects of traumatic experiences. Dr. Rutledge also performs group therapy and conducts psychological and psycho-educational assessments. Since no one size fits all, Dr. Rutledge uses an integrative approach with elements from cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, and family systems orientations to help clients and families harness their strengths and improve their functioning.
